The Third Orchestra is giving an evening concert of eclectic jazz-influenced global music under the direction of celebrated conductor and composer Peter Wiegold.

Wiegold has a long history of gathering together and working with musicians from around the world. His music venue Club Inegales in Euston played host to over a hundred guest musicians from all the continents and from widely different musical traditions. The Third Orchestra, which he now leads, grew out of the club’s resident ensemble and not only groups together musicians from around the world, but incorporates the instruments from their own musical backgrounds, including the pipa, guqin, erhu, oud and the taegum.

Importantly, the orchestra places emphasis not on ‘fusing’ together music and technique from their varied backgrounds to make a new sound, but, by a mix of loose direction and improvisation, to play together (including in live performance), in such a way that each orchestra member complements the whole while remaining true to their own tradition and identity.

The programme will include highlights from concerts given during their week-long residency at The Pit, in London’s Barbican Centre in 2019, as well as new pieces.
