The View from The Shard

Ongoing
Visitors to the Shard in the viewing gallery

In 2013, The View from The Shard opened to the public in Renzo Piano and Irvine Sellar’s iconic London landmark. At a height nearly twice that of any other viewpoint over London, its unrivalled sights reveal the bends along the snaking Thames and, on a bright and sunny afternoon, stretch for up to 40 miles, spanning 360° across the capital.

The lifts rapidly reach level 68–in approximately 60 seconds–with video and mirror effects during the quick journey that mimic an ascent through ceilings of the city’s famous buildings like the dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral and the glass roof of the Great Court at the British Museum. Levels 68 and 69 offer indoor viewing platforms. Touch screen digital telescopes (called ‘Tell:scopes’) focus in on individual attractions and provide information on 200 places of interest (in 10 languages) as well day and night views that have been pre-recorded. Level 72, the highest viewing station, offers partially open-air views. Here, separate panels of glass come together and above is only sky. There is no time limit on a stay. For souvenirs, the Sky Boutique on level 68 is London’s highest shop. Drinks, including champagne and cocktails, are available to purchase, but The View does not have its own restaurant. There are several located further down The Shard.

Opening times vary daily depending on scheduled events. Check the booking calendar for updates and closures. General entry tickets cost £28 and include access to levels 68, 69 and 72, a panoramic guide and four digital photos. The View from The Shard hosts a variety of events that can be booked separately, from rooftop parties to family experiences.
